Spring has sprung which means its time for baby shower season. Your mailbox is probably overflowing with invitations asking you to attend a celebration in honor of the new arrival. What exactly should you get for a baby who can’t talk, walk, or even really smile yet? Picking out a gift can become quite a stressful process when you know that even if the baby likes your present, you won’t get a smile out of them.

A congratulatory card may be adequate in most cases. But what about those invitations that are for children who may not be your own, but will be a part of your life for years to come? The pressure can get overwhelming as you realize how important this gift can be even though its receiver can’t even talk yet. However, this is where looking for timeless gifts instead of gift certificates or clothing can become treasures that the baby may not be able to enjoy now, but will treasure for the rest of their lives as they grow older.

One gift that you may want to consider is an heirloom quality sterling silver spoon. Though it may not be something that there mother will want to use for the babies day to day feedings, this gift is something that not only is valuable but has a priceless sentimental value that the child can enjoy for the rest of their life.

If you feel like a spoon is just not enough to express your excitement that this child is coming into the world, you may consider investing in an entire flatware set. Because we live in the age of the internet, finding great deals and researching flatware sets has never been easier.

One such heirloom quality piece of child sized flatware is stainless Reed and Barton flatware. Reed and Barton has an extensive selection and features flatware in a wide variety of exciting detailed shapes such as fish, lambs, ABC blocks, along with the traditional classical designs mimicking even the finest of adult flatware sets.

You may also want to look into Lenox flatware sets for your next baby shower. Lenox has a wide variety of options for heirloom quality gifts, but by far their flatware sets stand out as exceptional options. Each set features wonderfully engraved pieces guaranteed to make the child feel special once they grow older.

A silver cup is also a great gift idea. Oneida Silversmiths offer great options for silver cups that you can give at your upcoming shower. Each cup also contains a small piece of parchment paper explaining the interesting history of the Oneida name that will help authenticate and concrete the uniqueness of your gift.

Also you may consider a silver newborn rattle. Silver baby gifts such as this can easily become a treasured keepsake of the child that will be kept far beyond even your living years. The great thing with starting with such sentimental gift ideas is that if this child is a relative, especially a grandchild or godchild, you can continue with the silver theme. For each birthday you can continue to give them the gift of a sentimental silver piece or heirloom all the way up until their eighteenth birthday or beyond.

Not only may you be providing heirloom quality pieces infused with future memories of you, but your gifts will last far beyond even their receiver’s lifetime. Your baby gifts could potentially be passed down from generation to generation as a constant reminder of your love for that child, as well as a constant reminder of its future givers as each hand that your gift passes through blesses the life of its receiver.

It may be an easy way out to buy a cheap card at the grocery store or buy a gift certificate for a local baby clothing store. However, maybe it’s a better option to give a gift that will stay with them for more than just a clothes size. A baby shower gift of flatware or a silver rattle may not bring a large amount of joy to the receiver now, but that gift can potentially become a priceless heirloom that will hold your name for many generations beyond your own.

The baby bash depends on the age of the baby. For one year olds, clowns would do so that he or she can facilitate the party since the most important guests would be the little children. Magic shows and puppetry would be sufficient to keep the children interested and satisfied. While for two years old and older, since by this time, they are already mobile and have learned to walk, a costume party or an amusement park theme would be the solution to keep the kids happy, balloons to keep them preoccupied, cotton candy to keep them busy and lots and lots of kiddie food.

Sometimes, a baby bash becomes an adult get-together when there are no other babies that could be invited. But try to have other babies around to keep the atmosphere on a baby bash.

Whatever you have decided what the baby bash must be like, keep in mind that the baby’s comfort is more important. Sometimes, there are babies who are afraid of clowns. You must have an alternative activity in mind in case this happens.

A baby shower

How do we play these baby game showers? Here is the run-down on how to play the baby game shower and create good memories of a great baby shower.

How big has mommy become? Is one game that is commonly played and it is done measuring up Mommy. Have a couple of toilet paper rolls ready and ask each participant to estimate the size of mommy’s girth by cutting the toilet paper to their guess size. Then each one wraps around the new mommy’s stomach the toilet paper they cut. The nearest length approximating to the mommy’s stomach wins the prize!

We all know that the single lady who catches the bride’s wedding bouquet is said to become the next bride. In The Seventh Gift, it is not so much a baby game shower but more of a fable that says that the giver of the seventh gift unwrapped will be the next expecting mother. However, avoid “planting” the seventh gift. Last but not the least, Dig Out the Pins is the baby game shower that tests the agility of the guests as they fish out the most number of diaper pins from a large bowl filled with uncooked rice and diaper pins in under two minutes. The participant that has the most number of pins brings home the prize.

Communication - that’s what a baby’s crying is for. This sweet little thing that suddenly turned into a fit of tears is just craving for your sweeter attention. All cultures in the world nod to this pattern all infants are accustomed to.

Boredom, what can I say? Aren’t these babies just plain spoiled? Crying because of boredom, errr, I’d find that a bit more twisted or weird if it’s with an adult that is. But babies are really built like this. Crying is their way of telling you, “Hey get me a life here!” Aside from attention and food, consequently, babies need a lot of stimulation. And when they don’t get this, there you get your waahh111. The trick is to pick the baby up and play with him. This move may be frowned upon by some because of its amounting to spoiling the baby. But it is important to know that stimulation is also one of the major necessities of an infant and it won’t hurt to provide him with some while in his growing age. This boredom cry is said to be also rhythmical and full of sobs and moans.

Discomfort, Pain is another precursor of the baby’s crying. Who won’t cry when in pain, right? Babies are not Major Paynes to endure the most excruciating discomfort they could undergo. They are little, vulnerable beings that need to be attended to when injured or when in an inconvenient situation. This cry could be more persistent, louder and more demanding. Shrieking and screaming, those are words that better describe the crying pattern roused by pain.

Some baby gift basket ideas

Bath Bath Baby. Bath products for babies are also commonly found in baby gift baskets. These include baby shampoo, baby powder, baby towels, wipes, bubble bath, brush set and tub toys that the baby will surely enjoy in the near future. Baby clothing’s could also be considered as one of the best baby gift basket goodies that one could ever give. Just be sure that the clothes you’ll give suit the gender of the baby.

Oftentimes, bows and ruffles adorn the baby gift basket. But one could still be more creative by doing a decoupage of baby pictures or baby items. Other handmade crafts may add personal touch to your basket. They could be in the form of papier mache’, origami, sculpture, small painting, woven or knitted items, etc.

Gourmet food, wines and other fine food may also be placed inside a baby gift basket for the parent’s celebration. A small gesture like giving out a well-thought of baby basket can surely go a long way. The recipient’s smile is enough to mean a sincere “thank you”.

How to take care of a baby isn’t a tough question. Taking care of a baby shouldn’t be thought of as a hard task either. If you look at taking care of your baby as a loving and bonding activity, then taking care of your baby should be a fun activity.

When the baby is already around, you would feel little overwhelmed and nervous. You simple do not know how to take care of a baby, right? Relax. In the process, you would eventually know the trade. You can ask help from your mother or grandmother. They can also help you take care of the child while you are doing the house chores.

First of all, babies are very sensitive to touch and hearing. Every other sense of their body might not yet be developed, but their sense of touch and hearing is already accentuated since birth. This means that it is important that you always touch and caress your baby. When you’re baby is crying, try soothing him or her with a gentle tone of voice.

Many doctors, nowadays, allow the baby to eat food whenever he feels hungry. The baby is also allowed to sleep whenever he feels like or as little as he cares to. This is known as “self-demand method.” At first, the baby may take a little irregular with this, since they are feed between two hours to six hours.

Pregnancy classes or mothers’ classes can help you familiarize yourself with the most common conditions your baby might experience as he or she grows up. This can include colic, teething, ear infections, aspiration and more. The more prepared you are, the simpler the question of how to take care of a baby would appear. One screaming baby is enough. You don’t need to add your worrying and panicking to the situation.

Changing a diaper is yet another aspect that you should come to terms with when learning how to take care of a baby. If done properly, it doesn’t have to be a messy job. Be careful when changing diapers. Make sure your baby is all clean and let their bottoms dry to make sure their privates don’t get infected or they won’t develop a rash.

But what if the baby is ill? It is natural for a new parent to imagine something very serious if the baby shows signs of illness, or they just think he is ill. Don’t waste time. Phone a physician and tell him your baby’s condition and he’ll do whatever that is necessary.

There are still more things to consider on how to take care of a baby. The ones mentioned are only the basic. In the long run, you will eventually learn the trade of motherhood.

Sperm donation is the practice by which a man donates his semen to be used specifically to produce a baby for another couple whom he may or may not know. Sperm is collected, checked, recorded and stored in a sperm bank for later use.

While sperm is usually donated anonymously each country has its own laws on the privacy of the act and may only allow the use of sperm from one man for a set number of conceptions. Using a known donor means that you will ask someone you know to donate their sperm for you to use.

However, the most likely scenario is that he will donate sperm anonymously so the woman receiving it will not know any personal details of the donor. Unfortunately this anonymity is not set to last as DNA testing and legal issue allow fathers and children to be made aware of each other if they wish.

Although not written in stone sperm donation is usually provided by men in the age group of 18 to 35 years of age but they must be in good health and there must not be any disease that could be passed down though their sperm in addition to have no history of drug abuse, HIV or aids. The sperm bank will carry out checks on the man’s background and family medical history plus his characteristics which go on record for future reference.

The sperm donor must be prepared to undergo a series of medical examinations which will determine his blood group details, whether he is infected with HIV or has a sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhea for example. Safety of the woman and her child are paramount so these test will ensure neither are at risk from infection contained within the sperm.

All sperm donation samples are now thoroughly checked by the sperm bank as well so that they can measure the sperm count and motility which is carried out before the sperm donor will actually be registered. Once this has been completed, all sperm donations are placed in quarantine for approximately six months so that the health of the sperm can be checked thoroughly.

Male infertility can mean that many infertility treatments currently available will not be possible if the man suffers with male factor infertility. There are a number of sperm issues that make it difficult if not impossible for a man to impregnate his partner such as abnormally shaped sperm, sperm that do not move properly or a low sperm count. Increasing numbers of women and couples trying for a child are finding the benefits of sperm donation to achieve their dream.

A child’s first bed is one of the most important things in itself. From birth until about 5 years, your baby will spend most of his or her times asleep. Buying a comfortable, safe, and high quality crib for your child is important to their health and well being. Sleep is when we develop and grow the most, so without proper conditions their sleep could be disrupted.

One of the most important things to look for in the perfect crib is design and structure. A crib with flimsy materials and faulty design is useless. Your baby might spend up to 4 or 5 years in their crib, depending on your preferences. Kids like to climb and shake things, and chew things. A perfect crib will be comfortable, strong, and beautiful too.

Another important thing to look out for is the bars around the crib. Some cribs have narrow bars, which is ok. And some have widely spaced ones, which is not ok. Wide spaced bars can result in your child escaping from the crib, or getting stuck between the bars. It is dangerous and frightening to think of your precious child getting stuck in the crib bars that are supposed to protect him. Some cribs come equipped with a lowering side rail. Children are really clever at lowering these, and when they get a little older, it will be an easy task for them to escape their crib. It might be a bad idea to get a crib with one of these, for safety’s sake.

Finding a crib with cushioned edges is also a good idea. You can buy sets that come with those, but its easier if the babies crib comes prepared. Little ones are likely to hit their heads on the hard surroundings of the bed, and that can be very dangerous for a child, especially for the first few months. Head injuries can be fatal, so your babies crib should never be too rough or hard. This could result in a fatality or damaging accident.

While not related to safety, finding a crib that is quality and has a good price is essential. No one wants to spend a lot of cash on a crib that is just crappy, or falls apart. The best kinds of baby cribs are ones that can last forever, as a heirloom, and for your child’s future children.

Looking online for cribs and discounts is also a good idea. Never buy a used crib, because anything could be wrong with it. Reviews, and other sources can be a good start for finding the perfect baby crib.

Closing Comments

Baby cribs are important for your child, and it’s the first place that they sleep outside of your womb, and of course your arms. Safety and quality should be your number one concern for your child’s crib.

Many Filipinos are leaving their native country, the Philippines, to search for a better life, for a better future for their families. Many of these Filipinos end up working as Filipino maids in foreign lands, particularly in the United States, England, Italy, Greece, France, and in practically every country of the globe.

Statue Square, Hong Kong is only one of a thousand places scattered across the globe where the smiles and cheers of Filipino helpers can be seen. It is indeed marvelous to know that domestic helpers from our country are so valued in foreign lands. At times, many have been thinking why Filipino helpers are so treasured in other countries.

Their exodus abroad may also be linked to their growing popularity, especially in terms of being hard working, dedicated and loyal. Among their other traits well-liked and desired of by their foreign employers are their being hospitable and honest.

Indeed, Filipino servants are able to do things maids from other countries can not afford to do. For example, only a maid from the Philippines can take on the job of cleaning the toilet bowls without complaining.

Filipino helpers, whether a college graduate or not, are observed to be naturally intelligent and resourceful. They can pick up instructions without further questions. They, too, work hard without supervision. The word workaholic is indeed, due to a Filipino. She’ll simply work and work and will only stop if said so by her boss. At times, they can also be feisty. They would even argue with their employer about a certain problem. They also know how to find a way and get out from every trial.

Filipinos are by and large known for their grasp of the English language. They are able to understand English far better than their other counterparts. They can also speak English more fluently. Thus, it is understandable why foreign employers would choose them over maids from other nations.

Aside from these, Filipino helpers are generally very warm, sensitive, and affectionate, thus they can easily bond to their foreign employers, considering them as their own families. Because they are so far away from home, they tend to treat their employers as their closest kin. Their employers, touched by this show of affection, also treat these maidservants from the Philippines as part of their family. Because of this, it sort of becomes a habit for these maids to bring pictures and stories of their employers when they go home to the Philippines.

Wherever they are, Filipino maids working abroad give dignity to their mother country, the Philippines. However, they should not be tagged merely as servants who do dirty jobs. Instead, they should be regarded with much admiration and appreciation for their extreme dedication, loyalty, and sincerity, as well as for all the sacrifices they have to endure while working miles away from home.

Having a baby should be a beautiful and happy time that is free of worry. Most new mothers describe the birthing process as exciting but difficult. After many months of waiting, they finally get to see the their child. Overshadowing much of the experience is the concern and worry over the baby’s health. Additionally, if the potential trouble could have been avoided, the parent’s guilt can last a lifetime.

Labor and pain go hand and hand during the birthing process. No one ever says how pleasant their labor and birth was, at least no one who did it naturally. Before you write off natural child birth all together consider the following, every year newborns suffer side effects from epidurals during birth. While not every child will have these problems, there is no guarantee yours will or won’t have them.

“Epidural fever” is an infection that 30% of newborns will deal with. It is treated through antibiotics and isolation until the infection is gone. Low heart rate is another problem for both mother and baby when using epidurals. Because of this oxygen levels will decrease and in many cases doctors will decide to do an emergency c-section to rescue the baby. However this means more medication and more risks for the baby and mother. If the mother has problems with the epidural, most likely the baby will as well. If the baby continues being exposed to a stressed mother, often the doctor will again order a c- increasing the odds that your child will be exposed to medication side effects.

Low APGAR test scores can also be attributed to non-natural child birth. This test is administered one minute after birth and again at five minutes after. The APGAR evaluates the baby’s breathing, coloring, activity, pulse and grimace. Epidurals can create false positive results in newborns mainly in the breathing category. Because of low or increased heart rates in the womb, the newborn is prone to abnormal respirations and pulse readings which can cause the doctors to worry. Under natural birthing conditions these abnormal readings would be cause for concern, however if the mother is using an epidural there is no way of knowing if there is truly something wrong or if it is a false alarm.

Many mothers who use epidurals who hear the low readings from the APGAR test, become anxious and panic causing even more stress to their bodies. Many women reported to birthingnatually.net, that they experience tremendous anxiety when hearing the low test scores until they hear the second higher reading. Mothers also reported that they felt more like a spectator when giving birth with epidurals instead of actually being in labor and birthing a baby.

Every woman has the right to choose which birthing method works best for them. However no method is completely safe. Even with natural child birth there are risks and problems. Everyday you are faced with risks, once you are a mother, the risks will only continue to come, few times will you have a choice, and it seems senseless to expose a fetus to medication side effects when the side effects of natural child birth are generally pain and discomfort.

Knowing proper etiquette at baby showers, as in life, helps the hostess of the even ensure its success for the guest of honor and guests. Although many of the more formal practices our society has observed in the past are now relaxed, many of the traditional rules of etiquette are still around. They’ve survived for a very good reason: they take the guesswork out of planning a shower and help set everyone’s expectations!

Invitations

Give everyone plenty of time to prepare for the baby shower by sending out invitations at least two to three weeks ahead of the event. This allows plenty of time for guests to 1) plan their schedules, 2) find a sitter for their kids, and 3) shop for a fabulous baby shower gift.

Hosting - Who gets the Honor?

Traditionally, a friend, but not a relative, of the expectant mother was expected to host the shower to avoid having it look as though the family were soliciting presents. Now, however, anyone can throw the baby shower to honor the mother-to-be including the expectant mom herself!

Because hosting a baby shower can be quite expensive in terms of both time and money, someone who gladly volunteers for the honor is best for the job. Never put someone on the spot and ask him/her to host a shower. Volunteer hosts who are happy to perform this service for their friend or family member are the best hosts to have.

Timing of the Shower

The baby shower is usually held before the birth of the baby. In the very late stages of the pregnancy, there is a tendency for fears to set in for a variety of reasons - bodily discomfort, stress, worry about the delivery - so the baby shower is often times just the diversion the mom needs to ease her mind.

Seeing old friends and relatives at the shower helps emphasize the importance of the pregnancy, and while traditionally a shower was only held for the first baby, it is now considered acceptable to have baby showers for subsequent children, including adoptions.

Guest List

While it may be tempting to do all the planning for the expectant mother, having her input on the guest list is critical. There may be many guests she’d like to include on the guest list whom the host doesn’t know. And though traditionally, baby showers were only for women, the mother nowadays can choose to have both men and women at her gathering. In fact, a greater number of baby showers are being held for both the mom and dad today.

Behavior

Since the entire reason for the event is to celebrate the upcoming birth, every guest is expected to congratulate the expectant parents. And as with all other parties, the guests should also give plenty of thanks to the host for organizing and holding the shower.
