Baby shower planning often requires a lot of time and work, but after all is said and done, producing a successful event can be one of the most rewarding experiences a host can have. When she sees the excitement, joy, and fun everyone is having, all the energy expended is returned in spades.
Because of the work involved in a baby shower, it’s usually hosted by a close friend or family member of the guest of honor. And this honored position carries with it a huge amount of influence in deciding one of the biggest questions about the shower - is it surprise for the mom or will she know about it ahead of time?
A surprise shower requires more coordination between the expectant mother’s family or husband and the host. They’ll have to make sure that the mom is available on the date and time of the shower while keeping in the dark about the event. This person will be responsible for creating an alibi and transporting the mom to the event since the host will be busy welcoming guests and performing the last-minute party preparations.
While a non-surprise shower is less cloak-and-dagger, it can still be just as much fun, while requiring less stress. Regardless of which type of party is chosen, picking a theme for the event goes a long way in organizing the shower. With a theme, things like decorations, food, invitations, and games can all be chosen more easily.
To facilitate as many guests coming as possible, shower invitations should be sent at least four weeks before the event. Remember to have all the necessary information friends, family members, and colleagues of the guest of honor will require: time, date, location, contact information, email address, and shower registry information if available.
As guests are arriving, the host should greet and welcome them to her event. When the mom arrives, have her seated in a position of honor and in comfort… it’s her event! Since the guests come from different parts of the mom’s life, they often will need introductions. And there’s no better way to introduce people and break the ice than with some baby shower games. Have them ready to go, and consider handing out prizes to the winners to keep things fun.
Before the guests leave, the expectant mom may want to open the baby shower gifts and have her reactions recorded on camera. Someone should assist her in recording the names of the giver and the gift brought for later use in sending thank you notes.
A successful baby shower is really all about supporting the mother-to-be in an exciting new phase of her life. I wish you all the luck in the world in this endeavor!

The process of adoption is not an easy one for anyone who is not a determined person. The question of suitability is probably the first issue to be dealt with. The task becomes all the more difficult when you consider in the United States, there are federal and state adoption laws, so if you are planning to adopt a child, it is imperative you have a knowledge of federal law and procedure. Because of the complexity of the process, many people are reluctant to adopt, all that is needed however, is an understanding of what is required and expected from adoptive parents in making a successful application.
The definition of is long but in brief, it is where the legal responsibility for a child is transferred to a person or couple who are not the birth parents, sometimes the child may have no family or they are a ward of court. Issues that complicate the selection process are because the new parent(s) must take full legal responsibility for the child, this also means the adoptive child is granted the legal rights of a natural family member. These rights extend to the full rights given to any child in a family including those surrounding inheritance.
In the adoption process, before it is finalized, all parties (including the natural parents where possible), must be identified, this process helps to makes it withstand any later claims. The naming of the biological parents can, of course, be problematic and many instances exist where this is not always possible, there are occasions where a child may be a ward of the court or their parents have died. The Adoption of an infant is sometimes because the mother is not an adult and when this occurs, it is not unusual for her parental rights to the child to be terminated, usually at the same time as the adoption process to be completed.
If you are planning to adopt a child, it is mandatory for you to complete a home study before the placement is doneall applications, irrespective of where they are made in the USA, must carry this out. The idea behind this is to ensure that the child is going to be adopted by people that have a safe and secure home for them to grow up in. Many issues are checked by social workers when a home study is being carried out including whether the adopting parents have criminal records, this is also to make sure the house is physically safe as well, in addition to inspecting of medical records.
Once this legal requirement has been completed and the adoptive parents have been given the all clear there may still be a short delay before the process is complete. The application is only completed when the judge who deals with family matters has had a chance to carefully inspect all the details gathered about all the parties involved.
The legal process surrounding adoption and laws change regularly, you would be wise to update yourself on any changes in the law before you begin the process to avoid disappointment at a later stage.

Are you hosting a baby shower party for a friend or family member. Baby showers have significantly changed over the last 5 years and have gradually become more and more elaborate and well planned.
Baby showers can make the mother-to-be feel more secure knowing that her friends are all pulling for her and giving moral and in some cases much needed financial support. Usually the baby shower is arranged by non-relatives. But nowadays, it isn’t unusual to find family members, support group members, church friends and pretty much anyone except the mother-to-be.
Inviting the Guests Who should you invite? Usually, the guest list will only include those nearest and dearest to the expectant mother. It wouldn’t hurt if she gets a first look at the guest list so that she can suggest who should be invited. If you are planning a surprise baby shower, you will have to do a little research on who should be attending instead of running the list through the expectant mother.
If the child is not a firstborn, you may opt to keep the number of guests down to the closest to the mother. Firstborn baby showers tend to have a larger guest list since it is, after all, the mother’s first time.
What you need to remember about the baby shower is that the goal is intimacy. So when planning the baby shower try to include those that are close friends and family.
There are many informal ways that you can choose to invite your guests such as email, phone and other ways. But of course the more traditional way is to send out invitations or letters to the guests that will be attending. This also has the affect of making the baby much more formal event and in many countries is the only acceptable way to invite the guests.
Hosting A Mixed Baby Shower Party Usually a baby shower party is going to tend towards the females only; however it is not unheard of and if the host of the baby shower has catered for the attendance of guys, then inviting the guys would be just fine. This also depends on the guys and whether or not they want to attend, since the party may dwell on topics such as pregnancy, children, and other mother-to-be subjects, they might not be that excited to participate. All in all, it depends on the preference of the person hosting the party and the mother-to-be and whether the guys wish to attend.
Baby Shower Venue Can Be Anywhere! As long as it can keep with the placid and fun nature of the occasion, any place would be fine to host the shower party. The more usual places on baby shower lists are backyards, formal halls, restaurants, and basically any room that has the amenities to make a baby shower successful. Just make sure the venue is not crowded and stressful to the mother-to-be. It also pays to make sure the venue is set long before the actual baby shower happens.
When To Hold The Baby Shower Party It is not advisable to host the baby shower to late in the pregnancy as this is a time where the mother needs to be focused and rested for the pending birth. The best time to hold the baby shower is usually between two or three months before the birth. This allows the mother-to-be to have a very pleasant distraction and to see how much support there is for the new arrival. This also gives the guest the opportunity to purchase gifts for the baby that the mother has not had a time to buy herself.
Baby showers are a pleasant surprise to expecting mothers. It takes a lot of the stress of expecting a child off of their minds and provides a means for friends to show support and concern (and of course, baby gifts) to expecting friends.
With good planning and execution of the baby shower party you will ensure the mother-to-be has a fun and memorable day that she will remember long into the future. As well as helping you to relax and enjoy the day as the baby shower host.

For some children, nighttime potty training can be an easy and smooth transition from their daytime routine.
For these kids, simply being able to conquer bladder control during the day develops their nighttime habits enough that they are able to stay dry the majority of the time.
You may feel frustrated if your child is one of the many who have difficulty maintaining bladder control. But it’s not your fault, and certainly not your child’s fault. While they may have properly applied daytime bladder control, keep in mind that this is in large part a voluntary process.
At night, however, despite the child’s best intentions, sometimes the signal from the bladder to the brain indicating that it is full simply doesn’t come through.
For this reason, a positive attitude is a must during nighttime potty training, just as it is during the day. Having a low-stress environment where the child’s self-esteem and well being are cared for facilitates the process of developing this communication from bladder to brain in the child.
This means being ready to give positive feedback for every dry night and not holding them responsible for accidents-remember, children have no more conscious control over nighttime potty training than you have over snoring or turning over when you sleep. It simply takes time.
As a parent, you can create a positive atmosphere where both you and the child are taking action while the child is awake. This means limiting evening fluid consumption and checking to make sure they make a final bathroom stop before going to sleep.
Synthetic sheets are also very useful for this as they make cleaning up after an accident a simple matter.
Having a no-fuss attitude about accidents-even if it’s in the middle of the night-is an essential aspect of proper nighttime potty training. You may not be thrilled to be up at 4AM changing sheets, but just remember that the child doesn’t want to be in that situation anymore than you do.
You can mitigate any feelings of shame or embarrassment by staying cool and collected. Simply change the sheets, help them go to the bathroom one more time, and go back to bed. No big deal.
Successful Potty Training is all about patience and consistent effort that will pay off over time

Welcoming the newest member of the family is usually done by hosting a baby shower party for a friend or relative. Even though baby showers were originally meant only for first-born child, modern concepts now tolerate baby shower parties for every baby whether they are the first second or third and even adopted babies that come into the household.
The organizing and planning of the baby shower is usually handled by close friends or a family member of the mother-to-be. They are a nice way to help parents-to-be get started with the items that they want for the baby. Take Note, however, that there are some cultures and spiritual notions that do not regard it proper and that it is considered ill luck to have a party and bring baby things in the house before the baby is born.
It is popular for a baby shower to have a theme, to which the entire party focuses on. Baby shower essentials typically include games, presents, and food and a cake! A party is not complete without the well decorated and yummy cake, and this also applies to most baby showers today.
Cakes are one of the essential things about baby showers, and they can be easily made using assorted standard techniques, such as the following:
1. All-in-together - this is done by placing the dry elements in a food mixer (together with the shortening) before gradually adding the liquid ingredients.
2. Creaming technique - this is by ‘creaming’ butter and sugar together before gradually adding the rest of the ingredients.
3. Rubbing technique - this is accomplished by ‘rubbing’ the butter into the dry ingredients before adding the liquid ones.
4. Melt-and-mix - this is accomplished by first mixing the dry ingredients together, adding the dissolved butter and the different liquid ingredients later on to complete the cake.
5. Sponge-making - this is accomplished by whisking the eggs and sugar into a foam, with the flour slowly combined in. Producing a light sponge requires good skill, as it does not use any raising agent or fats. Finished Up cakes are normally dressed up with the aid of frosting or toppings such as sprinkles.
There are diverse varieties of baby shower cakes to choose from. Many of them are named here such as Angel food Cake, Butter Cake, Butterfly Cake, Carrot Cake, Pound Cake, Spice Cake, Sponge Cake, Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake these are just some of the traditional cakes that can be found at a baby shower party. With some extra inquiry online you will be able to find some very amazing baby shower cakes that are not included here.
Apart from the cake assortments above, there are likewise a lot of baby shower cake themes that can make a baby shower festivity more special to the mother-to-be:
1. Belly Cake Theme. One super thought is to design a baby shower cake and make it seem like a pregnant mothers stomach belly. This can be achieved by putting a roundish cake in front of a rectangular cake and frosting them together to look like that of a expectant stomach.
2. Toy Blocks Baby Shower Cake. A different thought is to pattern a baby shower cake and make it seem like a child’s play cubes (either one large cube or three to four little blocks). Toy block cakes can be even more enhanced by surrounding them with candies or little toy automobiles.
In saying this, you can also experiment and endeavor to come up with constructive themes of your own. Remember that the ‘goal’ is not simply to make a delicious dessert, but as well a special centerpiece for the table that will stand out in the memories of the parents.

If you have been working with your toddler on potty training, you’ve probably had a good number of “accidents”. Accidents in potty training can be discouraging to both child and parent and may make the stretch from diapers seem wider than it really is.
You may feel that you have lost progress when a child suddenly has an accident, but occasional potty training accidents are all part of the process. It may have nothing to do with the success of your technique, but may be the child’s reaction to a change, like a trip to a relative’s house or a birthday party.
When these accidents happen, there are few things to keep in mind. As with many other challenges in child rearing, a positive attitude is the best weapon against potty training accidents. Try to remove the emphasis from the potty training accident itself and place it on making more progress and remembering successes.
Positive feedback is a much more important tool than making negative statements. Celebrating another dry night is more effective than reminding the child he keeps wetting himself.
If potty training accidents start happening frequently, look to external factors to try and diagnose the situation. Your child may have a medical issue like a urinary tract infection or constipation. Remember, he may not have the words to try explain what’s happening or what he feels. He may be putting off going to the toilet because he does not know how to deal with an unfamiliar condition.
Another common reason for regression is the arrival of a sibling. Many couples these days choose to space their kids by about two years. Of course, two is primo potty training time, and you may see a surge in potty training accidents upon the arrival of a newcomer who is suddenly absorbing all parental attention. Respond to this situation with understanding.
Remain firm about your shared goals for potty training, but take time to discuss what’s going on and give your child a chance to talk about his thoughts.

Like a lot of women, you’re pressed for time. Between obligations at work, home, friends, family, and your community, it’s tough to find time to slow down. You’re a real-life Superwoman!
- Who’s the gift for? It’s perfectly acceptable to purchase a gift for the mom, such as a beautiful maternity t-shirt, or for the bun in the oven, like a onesie.
- The receiver’s gender. Is the gift for the baby? If so, knowing the child’s gender can help you narrow down your gift choices.
- Age. Is the shower being held before or after the baby’s arrival? Do you want to purchase a gift that can be used immediately or one that the child can grow into, saving mom and dad some money in the future?
- You Financial Situation. Are you in the position to give something extravagant right now? If not, would you like to pair up with another guest and perhaps buy something a little more expensive?
Clothes are always welcome by expecting parents. So, of course, knowing the color they’d prefer based on the child’s gender is helpful. If you know ahead of time if a little boy or girl is expected, then choosing baby blankets, bibs, socks, pajamas, hats and other clothing items will be a lot easier for you and even more appreciated by the parents. Let’s face it, very few dads are going to want their baby boy to wear a pink onesie!
Other basic items such as baby health, grooming, and hygiene products are welcome additions to any mother’s baby kit. Diaper bags, babyslings, baby strollers, and other types of carrier items are practical and endlessly useful gifts that are good for both baby and mom. Other items like night lights, mobiles, music boxes, music CDs, and stuffed animals are presents the baby will enjoy immediately and as he or she grows older.
Whether money is no object or money is a lacking object, you can find a gift you’ll be proud to present at the baby shower. Affordability is definitely on everyone’s minds these days, and there are many gifts priced well within the average family budget. If you’re in a bind, why not go in on a gift with another friend? A great idea would be to personalize a more traditional gift, such as a baby blanket. It’s a practical gift that’s been customized for the baby that the mom will just love.
Now, if you prefer buying a shower gift for the mom, remember that, unless you’re sure about her preferences, personal or clothing items may not be the best gift idea… perhaps a gift certificate would be better? If it’s for the baby, you can always think a little bit ahead and get clothing sizes that the child probably won’t grow into until after the first 6 to 9 months of life. Mom will really appreciate this when it gets to be that time, and remember your thoughtfulness in the process!
Seasonality should also be considered when deciding on a baby gift. Is the baby due (or, if the shower is held when the baby has already been delivered) during winter, spring, or summer? If it’s the summer, consider cooler outfits instead of blankets and hats. If the baby is due around winter time, perhaps a festive sweater or onesie would be appreciated.
But what if, like other Wonder Women, you’re in a pinch for time and can’t afford to give yourself the guilty pleasure of baby gift shopping? You can always let technology help by shopping for your gifts online, in the comfort of your own home, wearing cozy pajamas. There are many wonder gifts available online for any budget.

Are you on a babysitter search? Then you know how difficult it may be to find a good one. There are a couple of good places where you could start looking for a sitter. Here are some of them:
Neighborhood
Start in your community. Some of your teen neighbors may be willing to baby sit for you. You could also put up an ad on your front lawn and wait for community members to apply. Another way would be to personally ask your neighbors if they know of any good sitters. Many parents swear that this is by far still the best way to get a good sitter. Your neighbor can vouch for the ability and character of your sitter. Then again, even neighbors can make mistakes. They may not be fully aware of a sitter’s entire background or history.
Schools
Another option would be to look for sitters in your local high school or colleges. Many students on these levels need some extra cash for school needs and extra expenses. Advertising in a few online or offline school boards would guarantee that you would have more than a handful of prospects.
Most likely, students with good records are least likely to have criminal records. Otherwise they wouldn’t be in school. Nonetheless, you should still carefully screen applicants from schools to determine their character and ability.
Agencies
Agencies for Babysitters - Your babysitter search can also begin in agencies. Many agencies have been around for decades. They would therefore have a lot of experience in gathering good sitters. Agencies also provide you with the option of stay in or stay out sitters. They usually conduct background investigations on their applicants to ensure that you get a good sitter. Agencies however typically cost a lot. This is especially if you need to get a stay in sitter from another region or country. You may have to spend a thousand dollars or more to get a good sitter.
Advertisements
Online Job Posts - People who wish to offer their services typically advertise. You can look through newspapers, yellow pages and even online job posts to find a baby sitter in your area. You would be hiring a virtual stranger though. This means that if you get a sitter through an advertisement, you would have to spend a great amount of time interviewing, screening and scrutinizing your prospects. You can never be too careful when it comes to the safety of your kids.
Online Services
Online services are similar to agencies. They have databases of sitter prospects that you can choose from. Many modern online services however charge cheaper. For a monthly or yearly membership fee, you can get a stay in or stay out sitter of your choice. These services also typically conduct background checks on potential sitters and let parents personally interview prospects. You also benefit from a number of parent resources that can give you advice on dealing with sitters.
These are the basic starting points for your babysitter search. You can choose the method that is most convenient for you. You should however always put your child’s safety and welfare first. Pick the option where you are most certain to get a reliable sitter.

How quickly a mother can expect her old shape back after pregnancy can old be based on guidelines as there are no hard and fast rules. Almost all women will lose up to 14 pounds within the first fourteen days after delivery but this is primarily a combination of the baby’s weight plus the placenta and fluid.
After the baby is born the uterus gradually reverts to its original size and hormone levels which have been elevated during the pregnancy will also gradually reduce so any additional weight also begin disappear and bear in mind that around 7 pounds of fat are added hen a woman is pregnant. Energy is stored in this excess fat ready for breast feeding the baby but how quickly each woman loses weight is dependent on factors like genetics, the mother’s health, how much exercise they get and the type of food they eat.
Patience can be hard when you desperately want to lose weight after your pregnancy but you have to remember it did actually take three quarters of a year to put in although it can be annoying when you see women who are back to their original weight and figure within a few short months. There are women who will not lose all the extra weight until they have finished breast feeding and this is in response to the needs of the baby but every woman is different and there are no hard and fast rules.
However, nutrition specialists are able to provide healthy diet plans and with regular physical activity there is no reason why you shouldn’t get back to your normal size and weight. It is true to say that the majority of women will in fact get back to this stage within the year providing they behave as far as their food intake and exercise activities are concerned. However, some women will lose their pregnancy weight in as little as six to twelve weeks.
What it is not taken into account is the number of physical changes that happen to woman once she has given birth and will alter some things she may have taken for granted. To enjoy permanent weight loss after pregnancy, a mother must realize that it should be achieved slowly as the long term benefits of this action will be improved health and fitness.
One aspect that must be considered is the health of the mother and baby as additional fat during the breastfeeding stage is used to provide extra energy. While it may take over half a year for a mother to get close to her old metabolic rate and hormone level there may be some changes that are permanent.
Most women will lose up to fourteen pounds when they give birth but seeing as they may have put on over thirty, there will still be some way to go.
Now while this weight loss after pregnancy happens immediately it can still leave up to another twenty one pounds which needs to be lost in the next half to three quarters of a year, but it must be done safely.

Have you ever wondered how mothers managed without diapers in the past or how families toilet train in different cultures? There is an age period from birth to 6 months and that some babies remain receptive beyond this age to teach your baby potty training.
The basics of infant potty training involve learning your infant’s body language, timing, patterns, in relation to feeding and waking In addition, many mothers instinctively know when their babies need to go. In short, it’s about communication between you and your baby.
The goal of infant potty training is to toilet train a child while still an infant. Some parents begin this from birth. It’s a very controversial issue with most experts agreeing that an infant does not have the neurological or physical development necessary to actually learn to control her bowels and bladder at this age. Mostly, it is the parent who is trained to hold the infant on a potty seat until she goes.
Opposing Views
Proponents claim there are many advantages to infant potty training though not much scientific data can validate such findings. They claim infant potty training means that the baby and their mothers can bond well together. It is easier on the infant and more comfortable for them as well. In addition, infant potty training allows the baby to become more independent and it also helps in reducing diaper waste, while it is also a natural and normal thing to teach your baby.
Opponents of infant potty training point to the futility of trying to force a child to learn something before she is capable of doing it. They compare it to trying to teach an infant to walk or talk at birth; the baby just isn’t ready to do it. They feel the time spent holding an infant on a potty chair would be better spent letting the baby be a baby.
The gap between the two sides leaves parents to decide what is best for their child. Is the effort, when the child is so young, worth it? Only you can decide that.
