If you’re suspecting acid reflux in baby, be aware that the condition doesn’t just occur in older children and adults. Any suspicion of stomach related problems in your baby should be screened and diagnosed by a healthcare specialist. Babies suffering from acid reflux will show just about the same symptoms as adult sufferers. However, it can be more challenging to treat babies since they don’t tend to follow certain methods all the time and may need more assistance. Take the steps in this article to effectively treat your baby.

Step 1: Watch Out For Symptoms

Coughing, spitting, bloody stool and vomiting are the common symptoms of acid reflux in baby. You may also notice that your baby is irritable and feeding poorly. A lot of babies actually experience these symptoms in the first 3 months.

There are some cases however, where babies will show more severe symptoms of acid reflux that can last from 12 to 18 months. Few babies have acid reflux due to other complications. These include breathing problems, poor growth, blood loss and irritability due to pain. While these complications can also be symptoms of acid reflux, they can be caused by other disorders.

Step 2: Have Your Baby Screened And Diagnosed

What usually happens is that your doctor will analyze your baby’s symptoms and do a physical exam before giving you the result. If your doctor thinks your child may have a more severe condition, then he or she may recommend other diagnostic tests. These include lab tests, esophageal pH monitoring, upper GI series, and upper endoscopy.

Step 3: Follow Recommended Treatment

There are several forms of treatment that your doctor may recommend. You may be advised to continue breastfeeding to reduce symptoms of acid reflux in baby. You may also be asked to feed your baby smaller amounts and more frequently, as overfeeding tends to worsen the condition. You may also try thickening the baby formula and see if there is any improvement in the next 3 to 5 days, otherwise stop.

Step 4: Maintain Your Baby’s Health

Most steps in treatment of acid reflux in babies are preventive measures. Because acid reflux mainly involves stomach acid and enzymes, the condition can always come back if you don’t maintain your baby’s overall health. Always try to relax your baby by feeding it in a quiet place, keeping pressure away from its abdomen, and not allowing it to do vigorous activities or sit in upright positions after feeding.

Also, it is best to feed your baby portions frequently. Also burp your baby during and after feeding. This way, you can free the air accumulating in your baby’s stomach and therefore reduce discomfort. Ditch the old baby bottle for a new one if the hole in its nipple is too large. Make sure that the hole is just the right size so that milk will not flow too fast. It shouldn’t also be so small that your baby will become frustrated and swallow more air. Finally, let your baby sleep with some elevation under its back (about 30 degrees).

These simple preventive measures can help treat your baby’s condition and prevent it from ever coming back. Just make sure that your doctor is informed about the methods you’re doing at home so he or she can monitor any improvement in your child and advise when treatment should stop.

A great way to celebrate the coming of a child is baby shower. This party was just like a tea party at the beginning. But the extent has been broadened nowadays. Its often arranged by the aunt or a friend of the mom to show their affection to the child bearing couples as well as to wish the happy spouse. There can be more than one baby showers too.

It’s a trend to gift the mod and dad on the occasion. The items are called baby gifts. Usually these items are given with a view to welcoming the coming of the new baby. And the mother also in return thanks the organizers wholeheartedly.

The planning of the baby shower should be perfect. The budget should be fixed very earl and the list of the guests should be determined carefully. Its imperative to invite all the close relatives, friends,, colleagues and neighbors of the new mother. And this should be done with care to avoid unpleasant issues

One of the most attractive parts in baby showers is giving the mother baby gifts. Baby gifts are mainly baby’s dresses, accessories or other stuffs given to the mother. It’s a great way to show your love to the couple and their coming child.

Shopping for a bay gift takes a great deal of creativity. You may like to give something uncommon and something that others will not be giving, at the same time the gift should be of good use to the child or the mom. You will need some time to find that sort of gift. But if you don’t have enough time for the shopping there are many package gifts available in the market. You can simply pick up one from the many.

Some creative and sophisticated gifts include wall hangings, or creative artworks. This should reflect the newborn baby. If you choose a painting for the baby’s room, it should be interesting and colorful at the same time soothing to the eye. Make the right choice and many will appreciate it.

Other gifts for the baby can be something like baby toys, or things that the baby might use. A piggy bank can be as cute as a gift. Giving a baby bank also inclines to the long term plans for the baby. When you buy the gift always match it with the baby’s sex.

Many will appreciate a creative and useful gift. And it will last long and reflect the warms of your affection the baby and the parents. Little things like baby gifts can be invaluable as they are the signs of supports from the closest one of the parent, especially for the would be new mom.

Puzzles from Santa - Getting the perfect gift for your toddler shouldn't be a riddle and can be the best investment you ever made for many reasons.

by Edie Mindell

Puzzles from Santa - Getting the perfect gift for your toddler shouldn’t be a riddle and can be the best investment you ever made for many reasons.

Toddlers are a busy, imaginative group of individuals. Their minds and needs have progressed past the impulsive desire to chew every thing their fingers grasp into slimy shreds. They love colors and will not forget about an object simply because mommy has hidden it out of sight.

Toddlers are also natural problem solvers. Don’t believe me? Then why the need for a million dollar baby proofing industry, constant parental supervision and a great deal of improvising when the fancy toddler proof containers fail to keep your toddler out?

Work with it

This Christmas as you select holiday gifts for your toddler use these natural impulses to select gifts that stimulate these natural tendencies and capture the imagination. To that end puzzles are the perfect gift.

What kind?

The latest trend in holiday gifts or newborn baby gifts is the childrens personalized step stool. Choosing a childrens personalized step stool can be one of the more unique ways to add the enjoyment of having a puzzle along with their own name engraved in the stool. The stepstool not only promotes independence, it encourages learning to read with dexterity.

Of course your toddler will not enjoy a 1000 piece puzzle of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces, but you are not too far off the mark. The best kind of puzzles for a toddler will take into account their fine motor skills and love of colors, learning and imagination. If you do choose a landscape type puzzle, choose one with a large pattern or picture. Too many intricate details will mean that this puzzle is dumped and abandoned for mom or dad to piece together again.

When selecting a puzzle for toddlers keep the following things in mind:

-Toddlers might not chew on everything, but will be tempted to take a nip or two every once in a while. Choose puzzles that can handle that kind of wear and tear without falling apart and creating a choking hazard. To this end wooden or foam puzzles work best.

-Nimble toddler fingers adept at defying the childproof cap still have trouble with fine motor skills. Puzzles with tiny pieces which lock together might confuse and frustrate them. Choose puzzles that have larger pieces and whose pieces fit into their own slot on the puzzle board.

-Some puzzles come with little knobs or handles attached to each piece. These are especially easy for even the youngest puzzle enthusiast to master.

-Bright colors and themes to match and stimulate your child’s interest are best.

Making it fun

One of the elements that make puzzles fun for your little one are the wide variety of character, themes and age appropriate educational pictures that appeal to children of that age. Puzzles featuring the alphabet or numbers help your child to learn as they play. Fun characters or puzzles with cars, princesses or bugs stimulate imagination and foster your child’s interests in and awareness of the world around them.

Perhaps the best part of a puzzle for Christmas is that this gift often creates moments of one on one play with you and your child. What parent or toddler doesn’t love more quality time spent in simple play?

Is posting a baby sitter wanted sign on your window the best way to find the help you need? You may think so. You should think twice though. There are difficulties and disadvantages to looking for a sitter on your own.

Looking for Your Own Sitter

Finding a sitter may seem like an easy task. This may make you feel like you are in better control of your options. You will also be cutting the cost of fees that sitter agencies and services charge. The advantages of performing your own search may be tempting. There are however, some disadvantages that you should be aware of.

- Time Constraints - It can take a lot of time for you to find an ideal sitter. This may be well and good if you want to be extra sure that you have the right person. Then again, this may not work out well for you if you want a sitter at the soonest possible time. Waiting for the right one to come along may mean that you would have to postpone whatever you need to do to take care of the kids.

- Ad Results - Good prospects for your baby sitter wanted ad do not come all the time. This is especially true if your ad is only restricted to one area. You may only be advertising in your neighborhood or immediate locality. This may therefore significantly restrict your options.

- Doing Everything - Looking for a sitter on your own means doing everything on your own. This includes checking references and performing background checks. This may be a tedious task on your part. It is especially so if you are not very familiar with the certifications and documents that you would need a sitter to get to prove her clean background. Even if you do manage to perform a good background check, there is still the task of carefully assessing sitter skills and capabilities.

- Limited Option - Looking on your own will limit you to just one hired sitter. This may be to your disadvantage. You may need only one sitter but there is no guarantee that your sitter will always be around. Even the best sitters may have to take some time off for important personal and family matters. That would leave you with no replacement sitter.

Sitter Services

Today, another popular option would be to engage the help of an online service. Now you don’t need to manually look for a good sitter. Online services can do that for you. Sitter services list potential sitters in your area. You get to have your pick on ideal candidates. If you pay a higher membership fee, you will also be given access to important sitter information such as character background.

In most cases, sitter services has more benefits than if you look for a sitter yourself. They do not however, take away your right to choose and decide. After picking a few prospects from the list in your area, you are given the opportunity to interview your prospects.

If you have a good online service, chances are, you wouldn’t need a baby sitter wanted ad. Everything you need to find a good sitter is at your finger tips.

Classic toys from a bygone era bespeak the tradition of the season and a connection with antiquity that is renewed with each holiday season. There are some things which seem impervious to the dimming factor time has on most. Christmas and traditions which are woven into its very fabric stand the test of time year after year. Most folks have great memories of the Radio Flyer wagon they got and if they are lucky, have kept.

Babies and the renewal of life, the freshness and love each tiny little bundle brings is also a timeless experience. Each new parent or grandparent will attest to this fact. Babies and the memory of babies stand forever young.

The marriage of babies and Christmas is almost unavoidable. Parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles the world over wait for Christmas to spoil and love the newest additions to their family circles, just as the childless wait for a baby to complete their Christmas celebrations.

Heirloom Gifts

Babies don’t usually need a lot, nor are they very aware of the gifts bestowed upon them for their first Christmases. To this end it is fun, and befitting to select gifts of heirloom quality. This kind of gift has a value which goes beyond the item itself and springs up from tradition, love and the memories of antiquity as well as dreams for the baby’s future.

Big bucks

An heirloom gift does not need to be expensive, but is usually of a higher quality than the more disposable counterpart. For example, a silver or pewter cup engraved with the babies name and birth date is not an extravagantly expensive gift. Yet the gift itself will last into future generations honoring the special feelings felt for this child. The grandbabies of this baby will share in that birthright of love as the cup passes hands.

Specifics

Heirloom gifts do not need to be fancy; some of the most beautiful heirloom gifts are the simplest. Toys made from wood like wooden cars and trucks or boats and animals are of heirloom quality. Raggedy Ann dolls are also cherished heirloom toys. This kind of heirloom gift can be played with and enjoyed in ways other than just observing it on a shelf.

Other heirloom gifts are less sturdy in play, but no less valued. Gifting a silver picture frame along with a certificate for a photography session is a gift that will certainly be appreciated long after it is given.

To select the perfect heirloom gift for the babies on your list think about traditional gifts such as: silver cups, bronzed baby booties, a pewter rattle. More modern gifts that still qualify as heirloom gifts include: classic books like those by Beatrix Potter or A.A. Milne, well made toys fashioned after eras past, porcelain dolls, bonnets, layettes and christening gowns.

Or think about any of the Radio Flyer toys, Airflow collectibles for pedal planes or tricycles. As a child, there is nothing like being able to have your own set of wheels to cruise around the neighborhood and many of those children will keep that toy forever and ever and even pass it on to their own children.

Getting a high chair for your baby is one of the things new parents do once the child is able enough to sit up alone. The high chair is ideal for seating him at the dinner table when the rest of the family is having a meal. It makes the family picture complete. If the child is left in its room you’ll be worried about its well-being and won’t be able to enjoy the meal fully. The child too will benefit from attending the dinner table get-together, picking up little bits and pieces of behavior that will be the beginning of its education. The many options available in high chairs may confuse you a bit. We’ll try to remove that confusion here.

The primary feature you should look for is stability. Babies can be quite active at the age when you put them in a high chair. They can easily bend over and unbalance the chair, toppling it over with serious consequences. Stability means that the base should be wide - as compared with its height. You really can’t have a chair with its legs spread right out to completely eliminate the risk of toppling over, but it should be reasonably wide. There are ways of lowering the high chair’s center of gravity, which will increase stability. In any case your precious baby should *never* be left unattended in the high chair.

Standard high chairs depend on a front rest or tray to prevent baby from falling off the chair. You should avoid these and select a high chair which has proper safety straps to restrain the child. Prefer a high chair with a full five-strap harness. A crotch strap and a waist strap are a must, at the very least.

Hygiene is a big problem with babies and very small children. They are quite susceptible to various childhood infections. Dirt is the breeding place of these infections, and you have to work 24×7 to keep the baby’s environment and clothing clean. Don’t add to your cleaning chores, reduce them by buying a high chair with machine-washable cushions.

Attachable toys are very helpful in keeping the baby from getting bored and fretful. Make sure the toys are baby-safe, that is, they don’t have sharp edges or pointed corners, and they don’t break easily. Babies like to taste-test everything they can lay their little hands on. So make sure that the paint or finishing on the toy won’t make your little darling sick!

There are a few features that are really worth having in a high chair. Ordinary high chairs which require all your attention and two hands to detach the front rest are no good. Coping with a wriggling, struggling bundle of joy while trying to get your child in or out of the chair and having to operate a complicated front rest release mechanism at the same time is a sport worthy of being included in the next Olympics! Get a high chair which has a quick-release front rest. Ordinary high chairs are fixed. Get a reclinable high chair, so that even infants can join you at table. Get one whose height can be adjusted to suit tables of different heights. You’ll genuinely appreciate a high chair with a tray which can be popped into the dishwasher. A smaller snack tray in addition to the regular dinner tray is good value for money.

That, then, is the lot of do’s and don’ts for you to look out for when selecting a high chair for your precious one. Don’t get confused by the plethora of models that are in the stores. Safety first, hygiene next, these are the essential features that you must not compromise on. The other options depend on your budget, and whether they will fit your requirement.

Having a baby is exciting for new parents. But babies need a lot of new stuff. Luckily, there are a number of places that offer free baby samples.

It’s true - there are a number of free baby sample offers that include:

* Diapers

* Infant meal

* Baby skin care items

* Shampoo and powders

* Clothing

* Portable baby care kits

* Diaper bags

* Baby bathtubs

Companies also know that offering free baby supplies is also an ideal advertising/public relations move. Rather than paying for advertisements, they instead invest money by giving products away.

The result is that the parents develop warm feelings about the company, as do others when they hear about the organization’s generosity. Another advantage to companies offering free baby supplies is that recipients will find favor with them and thus be more likely to use them again after their trial period has expired.

So where can you find info about these free offers for new parents? Here are a few ideas:

1. The best place to start is with an Internet search of the different companies offering free baby offers

2. Doctor’s offices. Companies are likely to place information in the offices of physicians because they know free baby samples have a high probability of being seen by parents there

3. Parenting magazines. As with doctor’s offices, companies know that placing advertisements for free baby offers for new moms in parenting magazines is a wise investment because they know the ads will be seen by their target audience

4. The specific Web sites of companies that are involved with the production of baby supplies such as Johnson & Johnson (shampoo, powder and other products), Huggies (diapers), Gerber (baby food), etc.

5. Speaking with other parents who have the recipients of free samples for new moms or who have heard of offers. It makes sense to seek advice from parents who have already had a baby and asking for suggestions on the best places to find free baby supplies.

Keep in mind that free baby samples aren’t limited to products just for the baby. Other related products include but are not limited to magazine subscriptions like Talk, Parents, and American Baby. These magazines are a good read and provide info about:

* Issues that affect your baby’s health and well-being

* Effective parenting advice and tips

* The newest and most recommended products for babies

Along with the financial advantage, there other benefits that can be derived through the free stuff for moms that a family enjoys. The major plus is that most, if not all of these free items, are delivered right to the mother’s home.

Home delivery is a big plus for new mothers because they don’t have to spend time away from their new baby. Aside from the traffic hassles and the price of gas, having the products shipped is economical, convenient and timely.

The savings that can be realized by parents who take the time to locate free stuff for new moms can be significant.

by Rashel Dan

You may be both working parents and are out of the house for more than eight hours a day. You may also simply be considering having a couple’s night out. In both cases, you may need to leave the kids with someone trustworthy.

Of course, you’d want to work efficiently or have a night of pure unadulterated fun without having to constantly worry about what’s going on at home. The usual way to go is to get a sitter. The process of getting a sitter however probably is not that simple. What do parents have take note of when picking a sitter?

Start as Soon as Possible

If you want to have a break as a couple, then begin your search for a sitter early. This means planning all your night outs, breaks, work commitments ahead of time. This is to ensure that when you decide to study your sitter options, you have more time to study qualifications and be discriminating.

Study All Your Options

Naturally, you want to get the best sitter to ensure your kids’ safety. A relevant tip therefore is to look at all your options. You can look for sitting services in the paper. Just make sure that the services you choose are ones which conduct some form of background check on their sitters. Another good parenting tip on this aspect is to advertise with your local community organizations or groups. One of the best thing to do however is to ask close relatives and friends to recommend some good sitters.

Ask For a Lot of Things

When you’re done looking for sitters and there are already applicant for the position, start a good screening process. Ask the right questions. Many highly recommend asking for references and actually checking and calling on those references. You should also consider a lot of questions during your interview with potential sitters.

Know and inquire about length of experience as a sitter, ages of kids looked after, training in CPR or other relevant training. Make sure the applicant sitters know what they should do during emergency situations like the child choking or falling down the stairs.

Take the Time to Observe

When you have selected a sitter already, take the time to observe how the sitter interacts with the kids. One parenting tip is to see if the sitter seems naturally comfortable with the kids and vice versa. Another thing to do for additional safety is to install nanny cameras.

Ask the Kids

Always talk to your kids about their experience with their baby sitter. You can ask them to describe what they did that day, if they enjoyed being with their sitter, what new things their sitter taught them and what other things their sitter has been doing. Be sensitive to such warning signs as discomfort among your kids when you ask them sitter related questions and bumps and bruises in inconspicuous parts of your child’s body.
